Timor GAP:  LNG’s Task Force of Beaço to carry out comparative site visit to Covalima municipality

DILI, 22 february 2022 (TATOLI)- Timor-GAP will lead a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Task Force of Beaco to carry out a comparative site visit to Covalima municipality.

According to a note officially published by Timor-GAP, the Government, through the Ministry of Petroleum and Minerals (TIMOR GAP, E.P) will soon conduct the data survey process for the land and properties of the area designated for the construction of the Beaço LNG Project.

“Before initiating the data survey phase, and as agreed, TIMOR GAP, E.P. is organizing and conducting a comparative site visit to the Covalima Municipality, with the representatives of the community/Task Force LNG Beaço,” a note is accessing by TATOLI Agency this tuesday.

The main purpose of this comparative site visit is to create an opportunity for the representatives of the community/ Task Force LNG of Beaço to closely observe the physical progress and socio-economic impact of the Tasi Mane Projects in Covalima Municipality.

Note added that it is to obtain a deeper understanding about the cooperation between the community, local authority, traditional readers and veterans.

Thus, activity also involved the involvement of the government regarding the land process, properties, clearance and reallocation of the community, cemetery and cultural sites.

The note said that the process was previously implemented in the Covalima Municipality under the Tasi Mane Project, namely the Suai Supply Base, Suai Airport and highway.

The above comparative site visit reflects the concretization of the dialogue between the Government and the Community of Beaço.

It also signed an agreement withdrawing their land and property compensation proposal, submitted to the Government in 2019, for the area designated for the construction of the Beaço LNG plant.

In the aforesaid agreement, the community declared to hand-over the area designated for the LNG plant to the Government, through the Ministry of Petroleum and Minerals and TIMOR GAP, E.P., in order to implement the project in accordance with the laws and resolutions of the Government previously applied to the Tasi Mane projects in Suai and Betano.

It is known that beaco is the area where the natural gas pipeline from the Timor Sea will reach Timor-Leste land and where an LNG plant to process the gas will be built.

It recalled that two villages are most affected by LNG Maluru and Uma wain leten. There are some areas most affected composed of Loho-Oan, Makaloso, Maluro, Makaliku and Kaidiu Bere, the total of 447 households.

The land construction of LNG required for 650 hectares.  The community has introduced 400 hectares of land to construct the new villages.

Timor-Gap has dealt with China Civil Engineering Construction Cooperation on an operational commercial worth 943 million USD.
