MS gives instructions to national and municipal directors on early dengue intervention

DILI, 24 february 2022 (TATOLI) – Vice-Minister of Health, Bonifácio ‘Mau Coli’ dos Reis has instructed all national and municipal directors to ensure the preparation and intervention work in the event of a possible outbreak of dengue in the country.

“We have to prepare ourselves before we reach the month of December, because according to the data, the number of dengue cases rises substantially at the end of the year. We must, therefore, anticipate the problem, carrying out a whole preparatory work to intervene efficiently against dengue throughout the territory”, said the official, at the meeting of the National Health Sector Coordination Committee, in Caicoli, Dili.

Bonifácio dos Reis also highlighted the need for the involvement of all people, especially international and national partners and religious organizations, among others.

The Deputy Minister also praised the efforts and support of partners from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) with fumigation and larvicide products in order to prevent the outbreak in the country.

The official also asked all national and municipal directors to mobilize local authorities to carry out cleaning actions in sucos and villages.

“I ask Pillar III to carry out a study in the areas of greatest risk. We also need to promote training actions aimed at managers and health professionals for case management”, he added.

Recall that Timor-Leste has recorded, since the beginning of january, 2,374 cases of dengue and 31 fatalities.

The Ministry of Health reported, in 2020, ten deaths and 1,451 cases of dengue and, last year, 11 deaths and 901 cases.
