DILI, 11 march 2022 (TATOLI)- In the 30th years ago, at least 120 students around the world, including some of them – António Sampaio, Pedro Brinca, Rui Sá Pinto Correia, among other, currently residing and working in Timor-Leste has taken part on the Lusitânio Expresso “peace mission” ship came to Timor-Leste – a tiny nation located between Indonesia and Australia, on behalf the peace, solidarity and pay tribute to the Santa Cruz’s Massacre incident on 12 November 1991.
On board, despite the presence of students, including Portuguese former president Ramalho Eanes, journalists from various media outlets and news’s agencies and foreigners. They were stopped by the Indonesian frigates. These participants launched the flowers at the sea to memorize the Timorese who died at the hand of Indonesia during the military occupation and finally Lusitânia Expresso returned to Portugal.
At this afternoon, during the laying of the flowers to remember this historical moment in Santa Cruz cemetery Dili – the place where Timorese youths lossed and died in the Indonesia’s militaries hand, the Head of Major of Timor–Leste Defense Force (F-FDTL), Admiral Donaciano do Rosário da Costa Gomes “Pedro Klamar Fuik” said, would recommend to the Government of Timor – Leste to award the 120 students from 23 who had participated in the Lusitânia Expresso ship journey, although they did not have time to sprinkle flowers on the Santa Cruz cemetery in Dili, but it greatly influenced the international community at that time.
“I am very touched by their solidarity, 120 students their age are very young, including me. At that time, we were all very brave and wanted to visit Timor-Leste on the peace ship Lusitânia Expresso. At that time, we all agreed to die for the sake of bringing the truth even though we did not have time to arrive in Timor – Leste to sprinkle the flowers on the Santa Cruz cemetery in Dili as a sense of international solidarity on peace over the Santa Cruz massacre incident but greatly affected the international community in resolving the Timor–Leste’s problem,” Director of IDN, Admiral Pedro Klamar Fuik, told Tatoli at the Santa Cruz Cemetery, Dili today.
Pedro Klamar Fuik, added that, all lists of 120 students have been archived and will soon be recommended to the Government of Timor – Leste to reward these students as proof that they are also fighting for the independence of Timor – Leste.
“I am very touched by those who have contributed to the independence of Timor-Leste through international peace solidarity even though they face a very big risk with the powerful Indonesian military in the Timor Sea in 1992,” Pedro Klamar Fuik added.
Head of Major F-FDTL and Director of IDN Admiral Pedro “Klamar Fuik”, realized that from the 120 students who boarded the Lusitânia expresso some had died but all of their names have been registered by IDN and in the near future the government of Timor-Leste will give the award of certification to them.
