On this important date for our two countries, I ask you, Mr. President, to accept my warm congratulations and my sincere wishes for progress and prosperity for the friendly people of the Republic of Korea.

DILI, 14 march 2022 (TATOLI) – The Timorese Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak congratulated the newly elected South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol.

“On behalf of the Government and the People of Timor-Leste, I offer my warm congratulations on the election of Mr. Yoon Suk-yeol as President of the Republic of Korea and wish him all the best in the fulfillment of his noble duties,” Prime Minister Ruak said in a statement released on friday (11/03).

Timor-Leste and South Korea celebrate the 20th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries this year.

“Over the last two decades since the Restoration of Timor-Leste’s Independence, we have been able to continuously and unequivocally consolidate this friendly relationship, based on the sharing of universal values of peace, freedom, equality, and solidarity, as well as democracy, respect for human rights, multilateralism and international cooperation,” he said.

Ruak was certain that the present generations of Timorese and Koreans will also be able to continue this fraternal relationship, not only in the institutional ties established in health, education, professional training, employment promotion, civic education, sports, and potable water services but most importantly in the growing exchanges established between our citizens and civil society organizations, where the program that annually receives hundreds of Timorese workers in South Korea stands out.

“On this important date for our two countries, I ask you, Mr. President, to accept my warm congratulations and my sincere wishes for progress and prosperity for the friendly people of the Republic of Korea”.
