DILI, 15 march 2022 (TATOLI)- The mobile library program of the Plan International in Timor-Leste (PITL) has been benefited six thousand children in Timor-Leste, principally those who are living in Aileu and Ainaro municipalities, reported the Education responsible of Plan International, Maria Beatriz
“The main coverage areas of Plan International are in Aileu and Ainaro municipalities. PITL is providing education accessibility for rural children,” Education responsible of Plan International, Maria Beatriz told reports at MoEYS office, villa Verde, this monday.
She added that this program is implemented in 25 community living areas in Ainaro and also ten areas in Aileu municipality.
This program is focused on promoting reading activities. Children can access books to practice reading activities. PITL provides various books for children, such as history books, school and science books.
Children also get the opportunity to play and develop a mentality. It is helping children to improve numeracy and literacy.
“We are visiting children two times a week because the children are living in remote areas. All books are free and children can read freely. They also can borrow some books to take home. Even some teachers are taking books to help with their teaching process”.
The impact of this program, according to her, is showing that children can be able to fluently read and understand histories. Students also can get some school lessons. The mobile library is provided for first and second circle school students.
This program was established in 2019 and 6.000 children have benefited from reading activity.
Mobile library program is funded by Plan International Timor-Leste through sponsorship program with the amount of USD 300.000
PITL is still not to expand this program to other municipalities. However, it keeps focus on two main coverage areas.
