DILI, 19 march 2022 (TATOLI)– Timor-Leste’s former Minister of Health, Sergio Lobo, is confident that the newly elected President for 2022-2017 will approve an adequate budget to respond to health problems in Timor-Leste.
“President-elect should evaluate the health system and recommend the government to focus its priorities on health assistance to respond to the concerns of many people,” Lobo told TATOLI at the voting center, ABC Elementary School, Bidau, Akadiru-Hun.
Wolds is concerned about the new virus COVID-19 and Omicron that has affected the whole world to respond to such situations, Timor-Leste needs to have skilled leadership to find solutions to respond to situations that are deemed to be affecting public health.
Lobo also emphasized that Timor-Leste is currently recording high rates of malnutrition, dengue fever, TB, and other diseases afflicting the entire country.
“An elected president must ensure East Timor has sufficient state budget to allocate to the health sector and allow all members of the government to implement programs, especially health programs, to solve health problems,” said Lobo.
Following a report from the Ministry of Health, Timor-Leste recorded 3,268 cases of dengue fever and 37 deaths since the start of the year.
The country is also currently reporting 22,803 confirmed cases OF Covid-19, 130 deaths, and 22,648 recoveries since the outbreak of the virus.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health also noted, last year, 3,200 TB patients, of whom 3% died.
Since the beginning of the year, 122 people have been detected with TB following a report from the Klibur Domin Foundation.
