DILI, 22 march 2022 (TATOLI) – The President of the National Electoral Commission (CNE), José Agustinho Belo, said that the Parallel Polling Station Centers were placed in three places such as, STM (Becora), INAP (Comoro) and GMT to facilitate the voters whose electoral cards were in the municipality to participate the vote in Dili, is not effective, because of that, CNE with the Technical Secretariat of the Electoral Administration (STAE) will conduct an evaluation to improve it, in the next election.

“CNE admits that, the Parallel Polling Station was not effective around 8,000 students who did not participate in the Presidential ‘s election because their names were not registered in the STAE‘s database, therefore we will conduct an evaluation to improve it in the next election,” the President of CNE Belo, told reporters at CNE ‘s office, Colmera, Dili, this tuesday.

The President of CNE Belo, added previously, CNE and STAE had announced to the voters whose electoral cards were in the municipalities to register their name in each village ‘s office to participate the Presidential ‘s election on 19 march 2022 last week, but many voters did not participate optimally due to inaccurate information.

“We announced to the voters to register their names at the polling stations in Dili for 10 days from 19 february to 02 of march, but due to the lack of information they were unable to register their names therefore at the time of the election, when they went to the Parallel Station Center to vote, their names are not in STAE ‘s database,” the President of CNE Belo, added.

This is an experience, because of that, the CNE and STAE will improve it, to manage all voters to participate maximally in the next election.

Previously the President of the Democratic Republic of Timor – Leste Francisco Guterres ‘Lú Olo,’ was also very concerned, because the volume of voters ‘s  participation in the Presidential election was greatly reduced and almost 300,000 voters did not participate in the Presidential election of 19 march 2022, therefore the President of the Republic urged, the Government through the CNE and STAE to improve the working mechanism in order that, the participation of  voters  will maximally in the next election.
