DILI, 25 march 2022 (TATOLI)- The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Timor-Leste (CCI-TL), informs that the supply of cooking oil in Timor Leste will run out in the next two months.
The President of CCI-TL, Oscar Lima, said the price of cooking oil in Timor – Leste is expensive because the supplier of cooking oil is limited in Indonesia.
“Cooking oil in Timor – Leste is expensive because Timor – Leste still not yet, have its own industry and factories, we are very dependent on the goods which is imported from Indonesia including cooking oil,” the President of CCI-TL, Oscar Lima told TATOLI at the office of CCI- TL, Acait, Dili on this friday.
To response this problem, CCI-TL together with the institutional representative of businesses and the private sector will coordinate with the Government of Timor – Leste through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI), together with the Indonesian Embassy and the Malaysian Embassy in Timor – Leste, to overcome this issue.
“We will coordinate with the MCI, together with the Indonesian Embassy and the Malaysian Embassy to continue to import the cooking oil to Timor – Leste because this is a basic need. We must be aware, because Timor – Leste still not yet, has its own factory,” the President of CCI-TL, Oscar Lima added.
The President of CCI-TL, explained that Indonesia would also not import the cooking oil to Timor-Leste because the supply of cooking oil in Indonesia is also already limited. Therefore, CCI-TL and partners will lobby with Malaysia through its embassy in Timor-Leste, to import the cooking oil through the distributors based on the market demand in Timor – Leste because this is a basic necessity.
At the same place, the owner of the JACINTO Super market, Clarisia Lay, took the positive side because with the limited supply of cooking oil in Indonesia, the entrepreneurs can take this opportunity to immediately orient the coconut farmers in Timor – Leste, in managing the local coconut in Timor – Leste to be consumed in the future.
“The supply of cooking oil in the world including Indonesia is starting to be limited, this will provide a good opportunity for Timorese entrepreneurs to invest in local coconut and produce into cooking oil because we have sufficient raw materials in across the Timor – Leste,” Clarisia Lay said.
Clarisia Lay, informed that, will coordinate together with the other Timorese entrepreneurs to credit the bank to invest in the producing of coconut oil in Timor-Leste in the future.
