DILI, 25 march 2022 (TATOLI)- The President of the Republic (PR), Francisco Guterres Lú Olo, this friday received a letter of credentials from the new Ambassador of Portugal to Timor-Leste (TL), Manuela Freitas Bairos.

“Today the President of the Republic received the official credential letter from the Ambassador of Portugal to Timor- Leste Manuela Freitas Bairos,” Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MoFAC), Adaljiza Albertina Xavier Reis Magno, told reporters after accompanying the new Ambassador of Portugal in presenting her credentials to the Head of State at the Presidential ‘s office Nicolau Lobato, Bairo Pite, Dili on this friday.

By presenting the credential letter, the new Ambassador of Portugal can carry out a mission in Timor-Leste to replace the former Ambassador during four years in Timor-Leste.

The new Ambassador of Portugal Manuela Freitas Bairos has been pursuing a diplomatic career for many years, previously She served as the Ambassador of Portugal in Indonesia and provided the first diplomatic training to 50 Timorese diplomats in the of 2000 and 2021 before the restoration of Timor-Leste’s independence and has also worked in CPLP during this time.

“The Ambassador of Portugal has a strong relationship with Timor–Leste, because of that, the President of the Republic of Timor-Leste is very proud to work with her,” The Minister of MoFAC Magno, added.

The Minister of MoFAC Magno, said as the Lusophony community, Portugal is very crucial to Timor–Leste, based on its historical relation to language, as well as very strong relations in the education, defense and security sectors and other sectors.
