DILI, 11 april 2022 (TATOLI)  The FHK (Fo Hau Kiun) Group imported 10.800 egg trays from Malaysia amid egg shortages in Timor-Leste.

“Last week, we imported 10.800 egg trays from Malaysia in order to respond to the customer needs amid egg shortages in the country,” the General Coordinator of FHK Group, Pascoal Suri Mali told Tatoli, at his office, at Leader Supermarket, in Dili, today.

He said in the previous week, FHK Group discussed with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MoAF), and the Authority of Timor-Leste’s Quarantine to import eggs from Indonesia to solve egg shortages in the country.

“Prior to the egg shortages in the country, the Quarantine Authority would not allow us to import eggs from Indonesia. But after having a discussion with them, we are now authorized to import eggs from Indonesia. So, another 2.400 egg trays from Indonesia will arrive next week. I can assure you that we have received the approval letter for importing eggs from Indonesia,” he said.

Mali informed that the prices of the eggs sold at Leader supermarket of FHK Group remained the same: “An egg tray for 30 eggs cost US$5.25, meanwhile an egg tray for 10 eggs costs US$1.95.”

He added that FHK has nothing to do with the skyrocket of egg prices in the recent weeks in Timor-Leste: “The prices of eggs not only skyrocketed in Timor-Leste, but also in Indonesia and Malaysia.”
