DILI, April 22, 2022 (TATOLI) – The World Food Program and the Government of China are supporting 550 tons of continuous food nutrition packages for pregnant, lactating women and infants to help reduce malnutrition across Timor-Leste.
“The item consists of packets of biscuits which contain high nutrition, which will be provided to pregnant and lactating mothers in Timor-Leste,” WFP Country Director, Degeng Liu said at the WFP office in Caicoli Dili.
Liu explained that this project is a collaboration between the China Government and WFP, in which the Chinese Government donated USD 1 million to the world food program (WFP) for the purchase of 550 tons of Super Serial Food: “The procurement of 550 tons of serial food packages is made in European countries,”
Liu confirmed that a ton of super serial food had arrived at Dili’s Nicolau Lobato International Airport and had been transported to SAMES.
“The handover ceremony will begin as soon as possible,” he said.
Liu stated that the items would be distributed to every health center in 12 municipalities including Oecusse Ambeno.
Based on data from the Ministry of Health and WFP in 2013, Timor Leste registered 50.2% of malnutrition and stunting but the number decreased to 47.1% in 2022.
