Election Result: ‘Lú Olo’ calls on communities to maintain peace and stability

DILI, 22 april 2022 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres ‘Lú Olo’ called on the Timorese people to accept the result of the 2022 Presidential Election to maintain peace and stability in the country.

President Lú Olo made the comments in a press conference held today at the Luz Clarita Hotel, in Dili, following Jose Ramos Horta was publicly declared as the winner of the Timor-Leste’s april 19 presidential election.

Lú Olo is the incumbent President of the Republic who was defeated by his adversary Jose Ramos Horta in the second round of the Timor-Leste 2022 presidential election.

Lú Olo said the temporary result of the 2022 Presidential Election showed that Jose Ramos Horta was going to be the next President of the Republic for the period 2022 to 2027.

“As the President of the Republic, I call on the Timorese people to accept the result of the 2022 Presidential Election with peace and joy to maintain stability in the country,” said Lú Olo.

He stressed that peace and stability are important to advance national development to ensure social justice and a decent life for all Timorese people.

“I accept the result of the second round of the Presidential Election with joy as the people decide to pick their new President of the Republic for the next five years,” Lú Olo said.

“I congratulate Horta, the newly elected President of the Republic. I believe that he would cooperate with the National Parliament, the Eight Constitutional Government, and the Court of Appeal to continue implementing all the things that we conquered over the past five years.”

Lú Olo praised the Timorese people for their political maturity in maintaining peace, tranquility, and stability during the electoral campaign and election.

Lú Olo also expressed his appreciation for all the unconditional support from the three political parties, FRETILIN, Peoples Liberation Party (PLP), and Kmanek Haburas Unidade Nasional Timor Oan (KHUNTO): “I would also like to express my appreciation for all the support came from martial and ritual arts group in Timor-Leste.”

“We are proud as this election was successfully organized in a very peaceful atmosphere,” he emphasized.

The Head of State thanked the Court of Appeal, National Elections Commission (CNE), The Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE), National and International Observers, and the Timorese National Police (PNTL) for their successful collaboration and coordination in realizing both first and second round of the 2022 presidential election.
