DILI,22 april 2022 (TATOLI) – The technical team of the Timor-Leste Maritime Borders Office has arrived in Jakarta to reactivate the negotiation process on the delimitation of land borders between the two countries.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MoFA), Adaljiza Magno, said that, the technical team is led by former Deputy Minister of MoFAC Roberto Soares, and accompanied by the Ambassador of Timor – Leste in Jakarta, Filomeno Aleixo da Cruz.
“The team has been in Jakarta since last week with the aim of resuming negotiations with Indonesian technologists,” said Magno, on the sidelines of the “Meet the Press” Program which is organized by the Secretary of State for Social Communication (SECOMS) at the Government Palace in Dili.
The Minister of MoFAC Magno, also informed that, based on the decree – law, Xanana Gusmão continues to lead the Council for the Definitive Delimitation of Maritime Borders (CDDFM), adding that the land borders of Oe – Cusse with the zone of Bidjael Sunan-Oben and Noel Besi Citrana are still not delimited.
Noel Besi Citrana is located between Kupang and Ambeno (Oe-Cusse) and Bidjael Sunan – Oben demarcates the border between middle north of Timor-Leste, Oe-Cusse.
It is recalled that, in 2019, the Timor-Leste border negotiation team met, in Jakarta, with the former Coordinating Minister for Political and Justice Affairs of Indonesia, Wiranto, and together with the Minister of Foreign Affair, Retno Marsudi, signed the agreement to finalize the delimitation of land borders.
