Foreign Minister: TL’s invitation to the 20th anniversary of independence awaits a decision from the PM and PR

DILI, 26 april 2022 (TATOLI)– The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste (MoAFC), Adalzija Albertina Xavier Reis Magno revealed that her office is awaiting for a decision from Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak and the President of the Republic Francisco Guterres Lú Olo to invite the guests to attend 20th anniversary of Timor-Leste’s Independence Day on 20 May 2022.

“The official invitation has been prepared, but we continue to wait  for a decision from the PM and PR to ensure the MFAC manages the invitation and distributes it to leaders from other countries,”

The 20th anniversary of Timor-Leste’s Independence day will coincide with the Presidential Inauguration ceremony, which will be held on 20 May 2022.

Magno also said earlier on 24 April President-elect Ramos Horta had confirmed that Australian Prime Minister Scot Morrison would not be able to attend Timor-Leste’s Independence Day on 20 May 2022, adding that Australia would hold elections on the same date.

It is known that Timor-Leste has 19 embassies consisting of Australia, the Embassy of Brazil, Burney Darussalam, the Embassy of the Republic of China, the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba, and the delegation of the European Union in Timor-Leste, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, the Embassy of Japan, Korea South, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Portugal, Sahrawi Arab Republic, Santa Fe, Thailand and the United States of America.
