DILI, 29 april 2022 (TATOLI) – The Court of Appeal has officially announced Nobel Peace Laureate José Ramos-Horta as the New President of the Republic of Timor-Leste between 2022 and 2027.

The official announcement of the Result of the Second Round of the 2022 Presidential Election showed that with 640.967 (99.19%) valid votes counted, Horta won the election in a landslide victory with 398.028 votes (62.1%). Meanwhile, his rival incumbent Francisco Guterres Lú Olo has 242.939 votes (37.9%).

The President of the Court of Appeal, Deolindo dos Santos said according to the verification of the Court of Appeal, there were no irregularities identified, saying, therefore, José Ramos Horta was officially declared to be the President of Timor-Leste.

The Court of Appeal received the minutes of results of the Presidential Election from the National Elections Commission (CNE) on april 29.

“Today, the Court of Appeal has announced the result of the april 19 Presidential Election, and José Ramos Horta was officially declared as the President of the Republic for the next five years,” Santos announced in the meeting room of the Court of Appeal, in Caicoli, Dili, on friday.

He said with the official announcement of the Court of Appeal: “José Ramos Horta is now the President of the Republic for all Timorese people.”

The President of the Court of Appeal congratulated and thanked the Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE), CNE, European Union Election Observation Mission (EU-EOM), Timorese National Police (PNTL), National Defense Force (F-FDTL), community leaders, and Timorese people for their collaboration in contributing to a peaceful election in Timor-Leste.

Timor-Leste registered a total of 859.925 voters, of which 646.389 participated in the second-round election. Of these votes, the Court of Appeal revealed a total of 640.967 (99.16%) valid votes, 1.643 (0.25%) blank votes, 3.734 null votes (0.58%), 28 rejected votes, and 15 abandoned votes.
