DILI, 24 may 2022 (TATOLI)- The Secretary of State for Training and Employment (SFOPE) through the National Directorate of Foreign Employment (DNEE) together with its partners from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)and the Pacific Labour Facility (PLF) conduct the workshop to implement the Timor – Leste‘s Labour Mobility Program in the future.
“This workshop is facilitated by the Australian Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) and brings together three partners responsible for the implementation of Timor – Leste ‘s Labour Mobility Program, The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), the Pacific Labour Facility (PLF), and the National Directorate of Foreign Employment (DNEE) including the Government’s Secretary of State for Training and Employment (SFOPE),” the Secretary of State for Training and Employment, Alarico do Rosario told a reporter in Timor Plaza, Maubara room on this Tuesday.
Rosario added that this workshop is to discuss the agreement around shared goals, and joint priorities and establish ways to work together to incorporate the implementation of the Agriculture, Hospitality, Infrastructure to the Timor-Leste’s Mobility Program in the future.
“At the moment Australia and the other country need more Timorese workers, therefore we need to work together with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Pacific Labour Facility to train Timorese workers in the area of agriculture, hospitality, and infrastructure to prepare the unskilled workers to become the skilled workers based on the international company ‘s demand,’’ said Rosario.
At the same place, the Ambassador of Australia to Timor – Leste William Costello inform that DFAT, PLF, DNEE/ SEFOPE, today carry out the workshop together to define and introduce the roles and responsibilities, to understand each partner‘s perspectives and challenges, to identify common issues and identify next steps based on the priorities agreed.
“Australia wishes Timor – Leste, to join the Connecting Pacific and Timorese Workers with Australia, together with Pacific Labour Mobility (PALM). Therefore, Australia committed to continuing work together with the Government of Timor – Leste, through SEFOPE to recruit more Timorese workers to work in Australia based on the companies’ demand,’’ said Ambassador Bill Costello.
The Ambassador of Australia Bill Costello added that for almost 3 years Australia’s borders are closed due to Covid – 19 but now the borders have been opened, and all the movement activities in Australia will return to normal.
