DILI, 09 june 2022 (TATOLI) – Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Culture (MHESC) Longinhos dos Santos, received a visit from the Ambassador of Timor – Leste to Mozambique, Francisco Miranda Branco, on Wednesday, to discuss the situation of Timorese students in Mozambique and the Government’s plans to send another Timorese student to continue their studies at Eduardo Mondlane University in Mozambique.
At the meeting, the Ambassador of Timor – Leste to Mozambique Branco, asked the Government to develop a comparative study program between students and lecturers at Higher Education institutions in Mozambique.
The Ambassador of Timor – Leste to Mozambique Branco, also recommended to the Government to provide Portuguese courses before sending Timorese students to study in Mozambique.
Francisco Miranda Branco was inaugurated by the former President of the Republic of Timor – Leste Francisco Guterres Lú Olo, officially served as the Ambassador of Timor – Leste to Mozambique on November 8, 2021, and He assured that in the exercise of his functions as a diplomat, he will strengthen bilateral cooperation and study comparative in the area of education with the African countries of Portuguese official language and Timor-Leste (PALOP – TL).
Early on september 13, The Government of Timor-Leste through the Director-General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education Timor-Leste had signed a cooperation agreement with Prof. Doutor Orlando Quilambo the Director-General of the University of Eduardo Mondlane in Maputo Moçambique to strengthen the cooperation between both countries university, high school university and to pave the way for the Timorese students to continue their study in Mocambique.
After the agreement was signed, Timor-Leste sent 15 students to study in Mocambique by taking up different courses, according to the plan Timorese Government will increase the number to 25 students from 15 students, while TL will also send another ten students for the next coming year.
