JICA and the government put 7,4 million USD for the rehabilitation for the infrastructure rehabilitation

DILI, 27 june 2022 (TATOLI)- Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Government of Timor Leste provided 7.4 million USD to rehabilitate all the operational failures caused by the April 4 floods, 2021.

Minister of Public Works, Abel Pires said, the Government through the Council of Ministers has held discussions to allow the implementation of the financial agreement between Timor-Leste and JICA which focuses on the rehabilitation of operational failures affected by the floods on April 4th, 2021 with the amount of 7.4 million USD.

“The report from the Ministry of Public Works identified 117 infrastructure damage due to flash flood on April 4, 2021. To rehabilitate the damage, JICA has provided USD 2.45 million while USD 4.95 million is provided by the Government of Timor-Leste for the rehabilitation process,”

Meanwhile, the Government of Timor-Leste has also approved USD 332 million from the 2022 State Budget for the implementation of 700 projects by 2022, which also includes rehabilitation for operational failures.

The Minister of Public Works (MoPW), Timor-Leste Electric Agency, and the Institution for Petroleum and Geology (IPG) agreed to strengthen cooperation in responding to public services.
