DILI, 07 july 2022 (TATOLI) – The Ambassador of the European Union (EU), Andrew Jacobs was awarded the Necklace of the Order of Timor-Leste after serving a three-year diplomatic mission in Timor-Leste.
The Necklace of the Order of Timor-Leste was awarded by the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, at the Palace of the President, on thursday (07/07).
Andrew Jacobs took up his posting in Dili in september 2019 to replace his predecessor Alexandre Leitão.
After receiving the Necklace of the Order of Timor-Leste, Andrew Jacobs thanked President Horta and Timor-Leste for the long long-standing collaboration and long-standing partnership between the EU and TL.
“I just want to say how honored I am to receive this decoration. I know that this decoration is an honor of the collaboration between the EU and Timor-Leste. I would like to thank President Horta for your friendship and your collaboration during my years in Timor-Leste. Our relationship is getting stronger and stronger,” said Jacobs.

President Horta expressed his deep appreciation to the EU delegation in Dili, especially Ambassador Jacobs and his wife.
“Ambassador Jacobs has fulfilled his great diplomatic mission in Timor-Leste. During his mission in Dili, the European Union has shown its active support in helping Timor-Leste in various areas of development, including strengthening Timor-Leste democracy and the development of our economy,” Horta said.
He said during Andrew Jacobs’ mission in Dili, the EU also supported various NGOs with the development of agroforestry in a number of municipalities, including Baucau, Manatuto, Viqueque, and Lautém.”
“As a person and as the ambassador of the EU in our country, I would like to thank Andrew Jacobs’ wife, a great lady who had been doing voluntary work at the Guido Valadares National Hospital (HNGV) the Mothers’ Breastfeeding Center,” said Horta.
