MoPW and NIoMHE to procure 15 heavy equipment to mitigate the area risk of natural disaster

DILI, 8 july 2022 (TATOLI)– The Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) and the National Institute of Managing the Heavy Equipment (NIoMHE) is focused on procuring 15 brand new equipment for more than 2 million USD.

Minister of Public Works, Abel Pires said the MoPW equipment will be used to carry out work in the areas most affected by natural disasters in Timor-Leste, and the procurement process is currently underway.

“The 15 types of equipment are currently in the procurement process and will be distributed to manage the area prone to natural disaster at the municipal municipality level” Minister of Public Works, Abel Pires said to TATOLI at his office in Caicoli, this Thursday.

Pires said they are currently preparing 4 technical teams to work in four municipalities including Viqueque, Lautem, and Suai Covalima.

“This team will coordinate with local companies to intervene when natural disasters occur,”

In addition, the Ministry of Public Works will also recruit more than 2,000 technical staff, to assist and carry out emergency work in areas at risk of natural disaster.

“They will be responsible for managing the water in the rivers during the heavy rains and the rough roads,”
