DILI, 27 july 2022 (TATOLI) – Father Carlito da Costa Araujo urged Journalists of the Timor-Leste News Agency (TATOLI) to always strive for the truth.

The sixth-anniversary mass of TATOLI was taken place at St. Anthony of Motael Parish, in Dili, presided by Fr. Carlito da Costa Araújo

In his homily, Fr. Araujo said Journalistic truth is a process that begins with the professional discipline of assembling and verifying facts, therefore TATOLI’s Journalists need to be courageous and brave journalists to fight for the truth: “You need to commit yourself to always seeking and telling the truth. We know that seeking and telling the truth are sometimes challenging, therefore, you need courage and braveness to cover the war crime, etc.”

He said sometimes Journalists will have to face conflict and confrontation to reveal the truth and justice.

Fr. Araújo encouraged TATOLI’s reporters to ensure accuracy, fairness, and honesty in gathering, interpreting, and reporting the news.

He said journalists need to keep their knowledge and skills current, saying knowledge and skills will help reporters to produce good news stories to serve the public: “My big congratulations to TATOLI on its sixth-anniversary celebration.”

At the same place, the President of the TATOLI Manuel Pinto thanked Fr. Araujo for presiding over the Anniversary Mass.

“It’s the sixth anniversary of TATOLI. It’s like a six-year-old boy or girl who is about to begin/primary school. Therefore, there are still many things ahead to learn and grow stronger and be more professional,” Pinto said.

Before finalizing his message at the mass, Pinto thanked TATOLI’s team for working collaboratively to make good things happen during his leadership as the President of TATOLI: “We need to keep up this good work to achieve more in years to come. I thanked my two vice presidents, the fiscal Unico, adviser, finance and administration staff, editor-in-chief, editors, and all journalists who had been working tirelessly at this institution.”

Timor-Leste News Agency or TATOLI always strives to provide fair, accurate, and reliable information to the national and international audience.

TATOLI is a national news agency delivering news across the country and the world in four different languages; Tetum, Portuguese, English, and Indonesian.

TATOLI was established following the decision of the Council of Ministers (CoM) on February 3, 2016, which was published in the Official Gazette of the President of the Republic march 16, 2016.

It was officially launched by former Prime Minister Rui Maria de Araújo, on june 27, 2016.

On march 7, 2017, the Council of Ministers approved the creation of TATOLI – Timor-Leste News Agency (in Portuguese: “TATOLI – Agência Noticiosa de Timor-Leste, IP”). The decision came following the creation of a news portal, then called ANTIL, in march of 2016. The main objective of TATOLI is to be the source of official information, with the production of information for national, regional, and international audiences. With a multichannel, multimedia, multiplatform and multitasking character, the News Agency may evolve and serve as a center for the production of cinema and State documentation, as a public opinion institute, as a forum for public information, as a center for the management of archives and State documentation, and as a center for communication applied training and research.
