DILI, 28 july 2022 (TATOLI) – The Ministry of Transportation and Communication through the National Authority of Communication (ANC) today held a seminar with the theme “Girl in Information Communication Technology” (ICT) in Timor – Leste.

The President of ANC, João Olivio Freitas, informed that the purpose of this seminar is to share knowledge on Information Technology, especially with young women.

“We organized this seminar to share information about science and knowledge of information communication technology to young women in Timor – Leste so that they have in-depth knowledge to pursue a career in the ICT sector,” said ANC President, João Olivio Freitas to reporters in Timor – Plaza, Sui – Kamar, Comoro Dili this Thursday.

Freitas said CNC through the ITC program conducted ITC socialization and seminars for women because less than 40% of women studied Information Technology and worked in the ITC area.

“The involvement of professional women in the ICT world is less than 40%. Based on this percentage data, all countries in the world including Timor-Leste have made socialization efforts and seminars to invite women to share knowledge about ICT to continue their studies in IT and work in the IT profession in their offices,” he said.

In the same place the ITC program manager at ANC, Jorzinha Gracia said that the involvement of East Timorese women in the ITC area is still very minimal in Timor-Leste, therefore to increase the percentage of women’s involvement in this area, the ITC has invited young women to participate in programs provided by the ITC.

“We are very concerned because the involvement of female IT professionals is very minimal, it is estimated that less than 10% of East Timorese women work in ITC, so today we held the first national seminar and invited 65 high school students to share with them the information about IT, Engineering, and Mathematics study programs to encourage them taking their ICT studies at universities so that they can pursue the IT profession to contribute to the national development process of Timor-Leste,” he said.

This ITC seminar for women will be held in all senior high schools in the Timor – Leste National Territory.
