DILI, August 04, 2022 (TATOLI) –The Minister of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS) Armindo Maia, said MoEYS has identified only 28% of children have access to Kindergarten in Timor-Leste, saying therefore this is far from TL’s expectation to reach 100% by 2030.
“Based on the 2030 National Strategic Plan, all children access to kindergarten must reach 100%, but with the current achievement which is 28% it is very far from our expectation of achieving 100% of kindergarten,”
Maia explained the reason the achievement of only 28% was due to less budget allocation for the pre-school or kindergarten which is only two percent every year: “So it was very difficult to build infrastructure for the pre-school across the country,” Armindo Maia, told reporters in Timor – Plaza, Dili.
With every limitation and difficulty facing the MoEYS, Minister Maia, said MoEYS committed to allocate more than two percent of the budget to build the infrastructure for the pre-school in Timor-Leste at the same time urges the government’s relevant entities to cooperate and work with the partners to achieve an effective result.
“Government of Timor-Leste should start to invest in the Pre-schools for the future of Timorese children, We will continue to work hard together with partners to build Preschool education infrastructure in Timor – Leste to reach National Strategic Plan 2030,”
So far MoEYS has recorded over 400 pre-schools have the unconditional infrastructure and more than 750 preschool teachers need to receive attention from the Government to ensure the quality of the Preschool in Timor-Leste,”
