JICA provides 1 million USD to PARCIC to implement the ‘EDRA’ program for women cooperative groups

DILI, 11 august 2022 (TATOLI)- Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) provides 1 million USD to the PARCIC to implement the program for the Economy Development in Rural Area (EDRA)  focus on women cooperative groups in eight municipalities.

PARCIC Country Director, Junko ITO said the fund was given to PARCIC to develop women’s economy in rural areas.

“Since last 2002, we have been working closely with the women cooperative group in some municipalities in Aileu, Ainaru, Baucau,  Liquica, Bobonaro, Covalima, Ermera, and Covalima to improve economic of women in rural area through (EDRA) program in eight municipalities,” Junko ITO, told TATOLI in her office in Audian, this thusday.

Junko ITO explained that, the supported group that are working to produce  coffee and tea composed of COCAMAU Arabica coffee cooperative in Ainaro and Kohar cooperative in Ponilala Ermera rebbusca coffee.

The groups performed good progress and now they have produced a new brand of coffee shop called ‘’AROMA TIMOR’’ well known across the country.  It also has a good reputation and reaction for all consumers in the domestic and international markets.

In addition The women groups also produce more than 50 different products such as marmalade moringa,  pumking, tea, virgin coconut oil, honey, banana cryptic, cooking item, peanut butter, and others.

“Those products are available in the domestic market, supermarkets, and others across the country,”she said.A

According to Junko ITO, PARCIC also support the women group by importing their product to other country aim to generate more income due to small scale of domestic market.

“Currently, Women cooperative groups through PARCIC are imported moringa tea and coffee to Japan,”
