DILI, 13 august 2022 (TATOLI) – The Indonesian Embassy in Dili held an Indonesian community party to commemorate the upcoming 77th anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia (RI).

“Today, we are having a party, which involves a series of activities including sports competition, doing gymnastics and traditional games. Many Indonesian communities in Dili are enthusiastically gathered here to enjoy the party,” said Indonesian Ambassador to Dili, Okto Dorinus Manik at the Indonesian Embassy, in Dili, today.

Manik said the Commemoration of the 77th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence themed “Recover Faster, Rise Stronger” means that Timor-Leste and Indonesia must strengthen bilateral ties for the national economy’s resilience and adaptation after Covid-19.

“It’s part of our 20 years of diplomatic relations. We want to strengthen our economic cooperation and development. We hope that Timor-Leste will soon join ASEAN, even though the decision is to be taken by consensus of the 10 ASEAN member States during the ASEAN Summit,” said Manik.

The Head of the Organizing Committee, Ikhfan Haris said that to celebrate the 77th anniversary of the Indonesian Independence Day, the Embassy organized a number of sports tournaments, including Badminton, Volleyball, Singing, Crossword Quiz, Table Tennis, Futsal, Gaple, and Golf: “The sports activities had been going on for more than two weeks since july 30.”
