DILI, 25 august 2022 (TATOLI) – The Secretariat of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the Registration and Verification Service (SERVE.IP) will realize the consultations meeting on Timor-Leste’s accession to the WTO.
Following the statement issued by the WTO Secretariat of Timor – Leste under the Coordinator of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MCAE) said, the meeting will be directly participated by all MCAE and SERVE, IP‘s staff, which will take place in Delta Nova, Fomento, Dili on 26 august.
“This consultation meeting is an integrated part to increase the public ‘s confidence regarding the Timor – Leste ‘s accession process to the WTO, which has indicated the significant progress on the road mapping,” the statement said.
The Chairman of WTO negotiator and the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs together with his team have prepared materials to present to all MCAE staff and SERVE, IP staff, in that meeting.
“The compromise of the Government of Timor – Leste, is realized through the all wishes that, have been indicated since the first Working Group Meeting which was held on 20 October 2020, the second Working Group Meeting on 29 July 2021, and the third Working Group Meeting which held on 29 April 2022,”
Meanwhile, the Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs, Joaquim Amaral, and his delegation will attend the fourth WTO Working Group Meeting which will be held in September 2022.
“This fourth Working Group meeting will be an opportunity for Timor-Leste to demonstrate Timor-Leste’s commitment and its readiness to accession to WTO,”
The other crucial agenda at the Fourth Working Group meeting said, Timor – Leste, will be allowed to continue accomplishing the bilateral negotiation process with other WTO member countries such as Canada, European Union, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, the United States, and Cambodia.
All of these efforts were carried out by the WTO Secretariat of Timor – Leste which is led by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affair intending to transform all the achievements that have been achieved by Timor – Leste into all civil society and all elements of the state, the Government and the private sector to work together when Timor – Leste become a member of the WTO in the future.
