ERMERA, 27 august 2022 (TATOLI) – UNICEF engineers improved water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities at some of the Community Health Centers (CHCs) in Ermera, for COVID-19 prevention supported by USAID.

UNICEF engineers have been visiting the Community Health Centers in Ermera municipality over the past week, where the engineers helped to increase infection prevention and control through improvements to water, sanitation,n and hygiene facilities.

Some of the ongoing works include the expansion of water supply capacity, renovation of defects, and installing handwashing stations.

The improvements in water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities had been carried out at the CHCs in Atsabe, Ermera Vila, Gleno, Hatulia, Hatulia B, Letefoho, and Railaco.

The WASH improvements will help keep patients and health staff safe from COVID-19 and other common diseases caused by poor water, sanitation, and hygiene.

The WASH improvements are being made under a partnership between UNICEF, USAID, and the Ministry of Health.

In addition, UNICEF’s technical consultants are also supporting the Ministry of Health rollout vaccination campaign for COVID-19, and promoting the uptake of essential health services.

“Our technical consultants are continuing to support the Ministry of Health and municipal health authorities to reach families in all municipalities to raise public awareness on COVID-19 prevention and vaccine uptake. They also help raise awareness on nutrition for children and routine immunization,” said a statement released on saturday (27/08).

Some activities of the Covid-19 Awareness Campaign were carried out last week in the municipalities of Bobonaro and Viqueque.

The technical team members are deployed with support from GAVI and USAID.
