The Malaysian Embassy celebrates its 65th anniversary of independence day in Timor – Leste

DILI, 15 september 2022 ( TATOLI)– Counselor of the Embassy of Malaysia in Timor – Leste, Nadia Azura Mohd Nudri, said the Malaysian Embassy in Timor – Leste, today celebrates the 65th anniversary of Malaysian Day.

” Malaysia became independent on August 31, 1957, and today we celebrate its 65th anniversary of independence by holding a reception at the Novo Torismo Hotel, Lecidere, at 19:00 with the honorable guests, the President of the Republic of Timor – Leste, José Ramos Horta, the Government cabinet, Civil Society, Malaysian citizens, and other guests will participate in the Malaysia day,” the Counselor of Malaysia Embassy, ​​Nadia Azura Mohd Nudri, told TATOLI at his office Pantai Kelapa, Dili on thursday.

The purpose of this reception was to invite all of Timor-Leste’s entities to have a dinner together to celebrate Malaysia’s 65th independence day and in addition to strengthen the bilateral cooperation relations between Malaysia and Timor-Leste which have been running since 2021 until now.

“Malaysia will continue to develop its bilateral cooperation in various areas with Timor-Leste such as; health, education, oil and gas, and other related development areas during this time,”

Hari Kemerdekaan is the Independence Day of Malaysia. It is a national holiday which is celebrated on 31 august every year. It is to commemorate the independence of the Federation of Malaya from British colonial rule on 31 August 1957. In a wider context, it also celebrates  the formation of Malaysia.

Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj also the first Prime Minister of Malaysia was the leader who led the delegation of ministers and political leaders of Malaya together with  first president of the Malayan Chinese Association (MCA), Tun Tan Cheng Lock, and the fifth President of the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC), Tun V.T. Sambanthan.in negotiations with the British officials in London for independence.

The agreement for Malaya to get the independence was reached on 8 february 1956 with the British Empire when it became increasingly clear that the Communist threat posed during the Malayan Emergency was petering out.

Between the years 1955-57, the Tunku and his cabinet prepared the Malayan Constitution, discussed the administration of justice, cemented racial harmony in the country, and resolved to beat the Communists. Finally, Tunku Abdul Rahman led the nation when he shouted “Merdeka” seven times at the newly-built Merdeka Stadium on 31 August 1957.

Tunku Abdul Rahman was declared “Bapa Malaysia” or the “Father of Malaysia”. The national flag was raised for the first time in all 13 states and two federal territories of the new nation on 16 September 1963.

In Kota Kinabalu, then still Jesselton, Tun Fuad Stephens read the Proclamation of Independence of Sabah through Malaysia. He was to be Sabah’s first Chief Minister, and later he became Sabah’s third Yang di-Pertua Negri or Head of State. However, on 9 August 1965, Singapore officially announced its separation from Malaysia. Currently, Malaysia consists of 13 states (11 Peninsular states and two from East Malaysia) and three Federal Territories.
