PBI launches library membership card to facilitate Timorese students

DILI, 28 september 2022 (TATOLI)– The Indonesian Cultural Center (PBI) in Timor-Leste is officially launched a library membership card to facilitate Timorese students to improve their reading knowledge and add references.

The Education and Culture Attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, Ikhfan Haris said this program aims to inaugurate the membership because of the increasing number of students’ interest in reading.

“We will make them into one membership card so we will monitor how many times they visit, and now we provide 100 cards,” Atdikbud explained at PBI, this Tuesday.

This library provides 5,000 books in various fields, while books can be accessed through providers that have been provided by PBI with visits from Monday to Friday.

The methodology book is expected to support students and lecturers at TL to conduct research.

“We will carry out activities to enliven this library, we are free and open. In one year more than 2000 came here with limited books available, will work together to provide books for children, “he said.

Zelalila Nadus Peloi, a student from the National University of Timor Lorosa’e (UNTL) appreciates the initiative from PBI and hopes to increase the number of books so that it can provide more references for readers.

“I often visit this place and read the books here, and I am proud to have this card. I want more books to be provided by this library, to make it more diverse,” he said.

Founder of the Creative Writers Community, Devinarti Seixas informed that so far through his collaboration with PBI, he has provided certificates for more than 100 young people who want to learn to write, especially in Indonesian.

“This library is a place for them to get references for the materials they will write, and this year there are more than 200 people who are actively participating in the training,” he concluded.
