DILI, 11 october 2022 ( TATOLI) – The European Union ( EU) cooperating with Timor – Leste high court to implement the PFMO Project – Component 2 ” Osan Povu Nian Jere ho Diak” today realize the opening ceremony of the third edition of the Timorese Judges Training Program in Portugal.
The Chief of the European Union Delegation in Timor-Leste, Ramon Reigada said, This third edition of a training program is the same as the first and second editions that have been implemented since 2009, saying this training offered the opportunity for the judges to attend the training in Judicial Training Center in Portugal for four months including the practices.
” Today the third edition was launched so, tomorrow the High Court will send another 5 judges to attend the Judicial Training at the Judicial Training Center in Portugal for four months and will practice at several courts in Portugal for two months, said the Chief of the European Union Delegation in Timor – Ramon Reigada to TATOLI at the Portuguese Embassy, Dili on tuesday.
Reigada said that the purpose of the training is to add insight and knowledge about the technology of the Judicial system to be implemented in Timor – Leste to ensure the quality of the Judicial system in Timor – Leste based on the legal corridors, prior to that they will also study the Portuguese language about legal terms saying in Timor – Leste all court proceedings are in the language of Portuguese.
“Therefore the five judges are advised to take this opportunity to study the Judicial system to perform their work with effective in Timor – Leste,”
At the same place, the President of the High Court of Timor – Leste, Deolindo dos Santos, appreciates this program and thanked the European Union in Timor – Leste for facilitating the High Court by funding judges to attend the judicial training in Portugal, Lisbon since 2009 until now.
“On behalf of the High Court, I thanked the EU in Timor – Leste for offering the training support to judges to be trained in Portugal to guarantee the work of the judicial system in Timor – Leste,”
Santos added that today project is the third edition project, they will send five judges to attend Judicial Training for 6 months in Portugal.
“This program has benefited over 34 judges in Timor-Leste. It is hoped that this program will continue to provide opportunities for other judges in the future,” said Santos.
So far, this program is funded by the European Union in Timor – Leste through the PFMO – Component ” Osan Povo nian Jere Diak ” worth 12 million Euro, co-financed and managed by Camoes I.P with a total budget worth 600 thousand euros.
