Kanni Wignaraja encourages young Timorese to be entrepreneurs

DILI, 20 october 2022 (TATOLI) – UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, Kanni Wignaraja encourages the young Timorese entrepreneurs to participate in the professional internship program offered by UNDP to encourage business creation and development.

Kanni Wignaraja said after she arrived in Timor-Leste on thrusday this week.

“We must promote the potential of inclusive economic policies and diversify the economy so that it grows not only in Timor-Leste but in all countries where UNDP operates”, said Kanni Wignaraja.

Meanwhile, Rosália Trindade, director of the company Elvi’s Fruit Salad, admits that the challenges of her business project are enormous, which is why she sees UNDP’s professional internship program as an opportunity for growth. “We have money to invest, but we need knowledge of financial literacy and strategic places that can attract more people”. she said.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Trade, and Industry, Domingos Lopes Antunes explained that private sector management in Timor-Leste is complex and that the Government is seeking integrated solutions to minimize investment problems arising from BNCTL soft loans.

Apart from young entrepreneurs from the Kios Matenek organization, members of the Government and several development partners also participated in the meeting.

The meeting, held in Fundao Oriente, was attended by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Domingos Lopes Antunes, Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, Abraão Saldanha, Ambassador of South Korea to Timor-Leste, Kim Jeong Ho, and Director – Executive of BNCTL, Brígido de Sousa.
