DILI, 21 october 2022 (TATOLI)- UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, Kanni Wignaraja, and Timor-Leste Press Council hosted a meeting with Timorese Journalists from Different media to reflect on UNDP’s programs have implemented in Timor-Leste.
Kanni Wignaraja said UNDP has so many programs to implement in Timor-Leste and also in other countries around the world.
“UNDP is a United Nations development Agency that has many programs such as Economy Diversification, Entrepreneurs, Education, Health, Nutrition, Justice, Climate Change, Green and Blue Economy, Energy renewable, Agriculture, good governance, democracy, Justice, and others to support country development in many aspects,’’ UNDP’s Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific, Kanni Wignaraja remarks, at Hotel Timor, friday.
Since Energy renewable is a new program, WIgnaraja said UNDP is committed to supporting Timor-Leste in the implementation of energy renewable, saying the solar panels are cheap and have no challenges.
While, The president of the Press Council, Virgílio Gutters said to reduce the cost of electricity in the country, journalists should contribute to the country’s development through find out the government’s answer to the implementation of these programs.
“Journalists should find out about the amount of the taxes paid by the workers overseas and inside the country to the Government that can contribute to the country’s development, while journalists should also continue to encourage the government to increase the state budget for education that can ensure education quality in Timor-Leste. Education and Nutrition are programs that cannot be separated, child must consume enough nutritious foods to ensure well development of the brain,” said.
The Representative of the UNDP in Timor-Leste, Tuya Altangerel thanked the event saying, it is important to share all the suggestions with UNDP Regional Director on the program implemented in Timor-Leste that benefited the vulnerable community.
