DILI, 23 october 2022 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste and Cambodia signed two documents to strengthen the air services and rice trade agreement on Saturday.

The signing of the agreement took place in the Palácio da Paz, in Cambodia, and was attended by the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen, and the President of Timor, José Ramos Horta.

“The first document of the air service agreement was signed by Cambodia’s Foreign Minister for Civil Aviation, Mao Havannall, and by Timor-Leste’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Adaljiza Magno,” said a Cambodian government official, quoted by the Cambodian Khmer Times.

Another rice trade document was signed by the Cambodian Minister of Trade, Pan Sorasak, and the Minister of Timor, Adaljiza Magno.

The President of Timor-Leste, José Ramos Horta, said the signing of the two documents was aimed at expanding cooperation between the two countries, through direct flights and trade.

The Head of State of Timor Leste thanked the Government of Cambodia for supporting Timor-Leste’s accession to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the support of the vaccines and medical equipment against Covid-19.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, in turn, welcomed the creation of direct flights between the two countries, stressing that they would strengthen trade ties.

Hun Sen also asked Timorese to invest in the storage and polishing of rice. “Foreigners are allowed to invest 100% in Cambodia, which makes the country attractive to Timor-Leste investors,” Hun Sen said.

The two leaders pledged to promote cooperation in trade and investment, as well as in agriculture and education.
