DILI, 08 november 2022 (TATOLI) – The Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, Abrão Saldanha informed the President of the Republic José Ramos-Horta regarding the preparation for the commemoration of the 31st anniversary of the Santa Cruz Massacre.
The commemoration of the 31st anniversary of the Santa Cruz Massacre will take place on saturday (12/11), in Manufahi municipality.
“In today’s meeting, we informed President Horta about the ongoing preparation for the celebration of the Santa Cruz Massacre,” Saldanha told reporters at the President’s Palace in Dili.
Every 12 ovnember, Timor-Leste observes National Youth Day to honor the memory of the brave youth who demonstrated in Dili in favor of independence on that day in 1991, leading to the infamous Santa Cruz Massacre.
Saldanha said that Timor-Leste celebrates every year the National Youth Day in each municipality of the country.
The Secretary of State for Youth and Sports (SoSYS) allocated US$40,000 for the commemoration of the day in Dili and US$60,000 for the celebration of the same event in the municipalities.
“Various activities for young people will be held in Dili, including cultural and social workshops, sports activities such as motorbike races, and so on,” he said.
The theme for the 2022 National Youth Day celebration is: “Strengthening youth resilience and togetherness to build a better future for the nation,” he said
“President Horta would be available to attend and deliver special messages during the commemoration of National Youth Day,” Saldanha concluded.
