DILI, 09 november 2022 (TATOLI) – The Government of Timor-Leste through the Council of Ministers has today approved a Defense Cooperation Agreement between Australia and Timor-Leste.
The draft resolution of the National Parliament on defense cooperation agreements was presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Adaljiza Albertina Xavier Reis Magno.
This agreement will strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the area of defense and security, especially in the maritime area, as both countries share a maritime border.
The Minister for the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidélis Magalhães said that the agreement would allow for the reinforcement of joint operations, exercises, and training, as well as humanitarian assistance and disaster relief actions.
“Under this agreement, Timorese military personnel on operations or training in Australia may receive the same protection, responsibilities, and privileges that Australian military personnel would receive in Timor-Leste,” he said.
