DILI, 09 november 2022 (TATOLI) – Oxfam in Timor-Leste organized a seminar on the importance of social security and the obligations and rights of workers.

The National Director of OXFAM, Fausto Belo Ximenes said that many of the workers, business owners, companies, and institutions had not been registered in Timor-Leste’s social security, therefore saying that the seminar was to raise awareness about the importance of social security registration.

“We want to increase partners’ knowledge so that they can implement and enforce laws and contribute to social security,” Ximenes explained in Manleuana, Dili.

At the same place, the Executive Director of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS), Aida Maria Soares Mota, said that workers and business owners should know the importance of social security and understand the right to social security in their workplace.

Mota added that companies and workers should be aware of the decree-laws on the Regime for the Creation of Contributors to Social Security, the Legal Regime for Invalidity and Old Age Pensions, and the Paternity and Adoption Regulation for the Protection of Maternity, etc.

“Understanding the laws is the only way for workers to secure their rights. Because if they face problems at their workplace, they can ask SEFOPE for support,” she suggested.
