Parliament calls for appointing a health attaché to Malaysia

DILI, 11 november 2022 (TATOLI) – The National Parliament requested the Government to appoint a health attaché to work in the Timor-Leste Embassy in Malaysia to help Timorese patients who are having medical treatment in Malaysia.

MP Arão Noé from the CNRT party said that some Timorese patients being treated in Malaysia have communication difficulties and have no one to support them.

Noé said that the embassy has already appointed three attachés for three other areas, but has not yet done so in the health area.

He praised the medical assistance that the Timorese have been receiving in Malaysia.

At the same place, MP Albina Sousa also said that appointing a health attaché to support Timorese patients in Malaysia is necessary.

“Right from the moment the patients leave the country, they have no support to guide them, especially when they arrive at the airports in Bali and Malaysia,” she explained.

Noé recalled that due to the absence of a health attaché, therefore coordination between the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MoFAC) is needed so that the Timor-Leste Embassy can accompany the patients during their treatment in Malaysia.

The health attaché would be responsible for accompanying and supporting Timorese patients in Malaysia in terms of health care administration, accommodation, etc.

The attaché would also be responsible for regularly visiting the Timorese patients in Malaysian hospitals as well as coordinating meetings with representatives of foreign hospitals and health facilities.
