Dili, 20 december 2022 (TATOLI)– CARE International in Timor-Leste (CITL) and the Universidade Orientál Timor Lorosa’e (UNITAL) are committed to promoting quality education and preventing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in rural communities.
The commitment was made through the signing of the agreement between the County Director of Care International Timor-Leste and the Rector of the UNITAL, Florindo Perreira at the Becora Dira.
Country Director of CITL, Peter Goodfellow said the purpose of this agreement is made to promote students’ skills through internship activity in the rural community, which is contributing to reducing Gender Based Violence (GBV) and providing adequate information on Nutrition issues.
“Based on a common commitment to enhance rural education and promote gender equality in Timor-Leste, the two entities signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the placement of UNITAL students from the Education and Sociology department to undertake practical fieldwork in rural villages of Ainaro, Ermera, and Manatuto,’’ Country Director of CITL, Peter Goodfellow told reporters at CITL office, Bairro Pite, this Tuesday.
Goodfellows said this is also to further enhance their skills during their practical fieldwork, the students will also work closely with CARE to improve their understanding of child protection, gender roles, and the prevention of GBV, while also raising awareness of rural communities on these issues.
“Investing in the youth is crucial to achieving impact at a large scale, therefore CARE is committed to supporting the selected students to link learned theories with field practice, improving their ability before entering the job field in the future,”
Meanwhile, Florindo Perreira, the UNITAL rector, considers this opportunity as a great opportunity for students to enhance their skills while also helping students to work closely with rural communities to identify problems to be supported by the CITL.
“UNITAL will prepare students from Education and sociology department to have the opportunity for the internship,”
This program is supported by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) through HATUTAN Education and Nutrition Program.
This program activity will be implemented in four municipalities composed of Liquica, Manatutu, Ermera, and Ainaro for five years.
