MoF and UNFPA conclude Population Census 2022

DILI, december 28, 2022 (TATOLI) – Ministry of Finance through the National Directorate of Statistics and development partners officially closed the 2022 population census.

“The Ministry of Finance closed the 2022 housing census. The final report will be released in April 2023,” Finance Minister Rui Agusto Gomes told reporters at the statistics office, caicoli, this Wednesday.

According to Gomes, Government and Partners released the initial results of the 2022 population census on November 15, 2022. The initial results of the housing census show that currently, Timor-Leste has recorded 250,034 households and 1,340,434 residents.

The 2022 population census was the first census to introduce a digital android instrument used by enumeration officers for data collection for approximately three months.

According to Gomes the number of population in the 2022 population census, has increased significantly compared to the previous year.

“The 2015 Population census recorded 156,192 residents and now increasing 1.8% in 2022,”

Meanwhile, the Central Statistics Agency Elias Dos Santos Ferreira said the Government through the Minister of Finance had allocated USD 3.1 million for the implementation of the population census, in addition to this development partners included UNFPA providing technical assistance, Unicef ​​and WFP, providing Koffi Android, UNDP supporting power band, and UNwomen provided some funds to support the program.

So far the 2022 population census was launched on 15 August 2022 by the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, and the Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak.
