DILI, december 28, 2022 ( TATOLI)– Over 20,000 people have benefited from the Gender-Based Violence program in Timor-Leste.

South Korean Ambassador in Timor-Leste, Jeong-ho Kim said, this program had been implemented by the Government of Timor-Leste’s Secretay of State for Equality and Inclusion (SEII), and Partners consisting of the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), UN Women, United Nation Development Program (UNDP), United Nation Population Fund (UNFPA) and International Organization Migration (IOM).

“This program has been implemented from 2020 beyond 2023 in Baucau, Covalima, Dili, and Oe-Cusse. This program has benefited more than 20,000 people,” Ambassador Jeong-Kim told Tatoli at the South Korean Embassy, ​​following a report published by KOICA.

Ambassador Kim said the program called ‘Together for Equality: Preventing and Responding to Gender Based Violence’ aims to empower women and girls in Timor-Leste to enjoy their right to live free from sexual harassment and other forms of violence against women and girls in public and private spaces and have access to quality essential services.

“This program was funded by KOICA worth $ 7.4 million and implemented by the Government of Timor Leste through SEII UN Women, UNDP, UNFPA, and IOM,” said
