DILI, january 9, 2023 (TATOLI) – Director General of Basic Education, Luis Manuel Da Costa Fernandes said, the Ministry of Education has decided on Tais as the motive of the school uniforms for elementary, middle, and high school students across Timor-Leste.
“The Ministry of Education has decided Tais as the motif for school uniforms and has updated it to the Ministry of Education for a final decision,” MoEYS Director General of Basic Education, Luis Manuel Da Costa Fernandes told TATOLI at his office, in Vila Verde.
According to Fernandes, the Ministry of Education has appealed to all schools to wear one type of school uniform decided by the Ministry of Education.
“We have approached all schools principals across Timor-Leste to wear the same uniform which will be decided by the Minister of Education. However, there is no need for additional budget from schools,” said Fernandes.
Concerning the newly designed uniform, Fernandes said, the Ministry of Education is requesting all primary to secondary schools across the country to temporarily settle payments for their current school uniforms while recommending that students keep wearing old uniforms until a final decision came from the Ministry of Education.
“The Minister of Education asked all school principals to stop requesting additional budgets from students to buy current school uniforms. We also ask all elementary and junior high school students to temporarily wear their old uniforms and wait for a decision from MoEYS on new uniforms.”
He also reminded that school principals may not collect money from parents for new school uniforms.
“MoEYS will not allow principals to receive or collect money from parents for new uniforms designed by the Ministry of Education. However, parents will pay the tailor directly,” he concluded
