DILI, 16 january 2023 (TATOLI) – The Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE) will increase the polling centers and polling stations across the national territory and overseas.
STAE Director-General Acilino Branco said STAE had registered 1,200 voting centers and 1,500 polling stations for the presidential elections: “And another 190 voting centers and 340 polling stations would be added across the country for the 2023 general elections.”
Branco said STAE had considered the difficulties facing the voters during the Presidential Elections, saying therefore, increasing the number of polling centers and polling stations would facilitate the full participation of communities in the upcoming elections, especially during the extreme weather.
“STAE has coordinated with community leaders and municipal authorities to increase voting centers and polling stations for the 2023 general election. We need to adjust our logistics preparation for the election,” he said.
Last year, from june and december, STAE registered more than 18,000 new voters in the country.
Branco revealed that 1,273 voters who had already died had been removed from the STAE database.
As of november 8, 2021, STAE registered more than 855.597 voters, including 6.538 Timorese voters residing abroad.
