Dili, 19 january 2023 (TATOLI)- The Minister of Health (MoH) and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) officially launched a new health workforce with a manual of the job description.
The Minister of Health, Odete Maria Freitas Belo said The launching of the health manual aimed to improve the professionalism of Timor-Leste health workers and upgrade their working performance ability.
“Human resource becomes a key pillar in developing a strong, efficient, effective and sustainable national health system, therefore this manual is to evaluate staff performance; the new manual will be linked to the result of the ministry’s ongoing programs and activities. This means that those who perform well at their tasks can be systematically identified and rewarded through promotion, raises, and other positive feedback mechanisms,” Minister of Health, Odete Maria Freitas Belo told Journalists at Hotel Timor, thursday.
The Director of USAID, Zema Semunegus said the United States is committed to strengthening its partnership with Timor-Leste and the health of its citizens.
“The United States is committed to strengthening our enduring partnership with Timor-Leste and the health of its citizens, we are proud to have assisted the minister of health to develop these two documents through the USAID Health System Sustainability Activity,” She said
Zema Semunegus also said that USAID worked with the National Directorate of Human Resource and the Directorate General of Corporate Service at the Minister of Health in 2022 to draft and refine the two documents over a series of discussions with stakeholders, including a range of health workers.
“By developing standardized hiring and evaluation for health workers the minister of health has taken a key to ensuring retention, increasing patient care, and improving health service delivery. This is expected to lead to a more motivated health workforce that provides quality service for a healthier Timor-Leste,”
She said USAID has contributed more than 323 million USD to support inclusive and peaceful development, leading to a prosperous, healthy, and self-resilient Timor-Leste.
The launch ceremony was taken part of by the director of USAID, UNFPA, and WHO together with the Minister of Health and relevant entities.
