DILI, 19 january 2023 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, accompanied by the Timor-Leste’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Adaljiza Magno met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti to discuss bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The bilateral discussion took place in Davos, Switzerland, within the framework of the World Economic Forum (WEF).
The bilateral discussion would pave the way for both countries to build bilateral ties in various areas in the future.
In march 2022, Timor-Leste and Kosovo signed an agreement on establishing diplomatic relations. The signing of the agreement paved the way for both countries to deepen their bilateral relations, despite the long distance.
It is said, therefore, that the discussion between the two leaders showed a good sign of the beginning of bilateral ties between Kosovo and Timor-Leste.
Prime Minister Kurti expressed his appreciation to President Horta for the support given to the Republic of Kosovo.
At the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, world leaders discuss the critical measures for adaptation to global warming.
Cross-sectoral cooperation between research institutions, universities, indigenous peoples and communities, and civil society was discussed, which is important for finding adaptation measures to the effects of climate change.
In addition to the WEF meeting, President Horta would also participate in the discussion on the celebration of the 75th anniversary of Human Rights Day.
The Head of State will also participate in the roundtable discussion on geopolitics, and global cooperation.
On monday (16/01), President Horta and his delegation left for Switzerland to attend the WEF Annual Meeting.
Horta said that his State visit to Switzerland will be a good opportunity to promote Timor-Leste’s tourism potential.
President Horta and his delegation will return home on january 21, 2023.
