MoEYS to implement school feeding program in February

DILI, 29 january 2023 ( TATOLI)- Ministry of Education through the Directorate of Dili Municipal Education(DEM), said DEM will implement a school feeding program in Dili on february, 2023.

Carlito da Silva, Director of Dili Municipal Education (DEM) said, DME has conducted the coordination and worked together with all Headmasters of Basic Schoool and Preschool in Dili Municipality to implement the school feeding in February.

“We have prepared 150 catering owners to prepare the meals for students in the school feeding program in Dili Municipality, Each of them will prepare meals for 100 students in every school in Dili,” the Director of Dili Municipal Education, Carlito da Silva, told TATOLI in his office Kampung Merdeka, Comoro, Dili.

He said the program will be implemented in 85 schools in Dili, including Public and Private schools.

“The program will be implemented for Preschool and Basic Schools in the National territory,”

Silva said the implementation of the School feeding program aims to reduce hunger, reduce micronutrient deficiency and anemia, and provide nutrition for children.

Previously Government approved the School feeding Program on july 27, 2023 aims to contribute to ensuring children’s right to food and healthy food for children at school.

President for the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Leite Magalhaes said, School feeding program was realized in the form of subsidies given within the scope of school social action, aiming to ensure daily meals are healthy, balanced, and very necessary for development.

“This initiative intends to encourage children’s participation in pre-school and basic education, public and private, integrated into a network of public services located on the national territory, to contribute to the success of the teaching and learning process. ”, detailed the minister.

So far, The amount of subsidies provided under the School Lunch Program is set at US$ 0.42 for each school day and each student.
