DILI, 08 february 2023 (TATOLI) – The National Director of the Department of Inspection on Fisheries and Resources of Aquatic (DNIPRA), Lourenco dos Reis Amaral, informed that the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF) through DNIPRA will send 8 staffs to Portugal to attend the shipping training.

“We will send 8 staff from MAF – DNIPRA to attend the shipping training at the Maritime Training Center in Portugal in March. They will attend the sailing training for six months in Portugal,” said Lourenco dos Reis Amaral when interviewed by TATOLI in his office on wednesday.

He explained that the purpose of sending the 8 MAF-DNIPRA staff to Portugal was to attend the training on ship captains, ship management, and other related training as a form of preparation for human resources in Timor-Leste.

“The capacity of human resources is very crucial, we must prepare them with shipping training to be ready for use when Timor – Leste, has industrial fishing vessels and patrol boats to control the wealth and catch the fish at the Timor Sea in the future,” he said.

So far Timor – Leste, has established a National Maritime Authority (AMN) in 2020 and the Australian Government is also committed to offering 2 patrol boats to Timor – Leste, to be used in controlling Timorese seas, besides the Government through MAF will also purchase two industrial fishing vessels in catching the fish in the Timor sea.

Thus the sending of 8 MAF-DNIPRA staff to Portugal will be very useful in the future. They will be working in handling the ships that will operate in the Timor Sea to ensure the sea resources are protected.
