DILI, 15 february 14 (TATOLI) – The National Parliament (NP) has unanimously approved the 5th amendment to the Electoral Law for Parliament.
The fifth amendment to Law 6/2006, of December 28, includes the incorporation of a number of innovations, such as the introduction of postal voting, the extension of the opening hours of polling stations, the creation of parallel voting centers in the capital Dili and journalists will be allowed to vote at the polling center where they cover the parliamentary elections.
Parliament Speaker Aniceto Guterres asked Committee A to finalize the draft of the bill to be sent to the President of the Republic for promulgation.
“Parliament will deliver tomorrow the final draft to the Head of State for promulgation,” Guterres made the comments at the plenary session, on tuesday.
Democratic Party MP Adriano do Nascimento and FRETILIN’s MP Antoninho Bianco stressed that the approval of the law is crucial to increase the voter turnout rate in the upcoming general elections.
The Minister of State Administration, Miguel de Carvalho, said that the electoral bodies are ready to organize the elections.
