DILI, 16 february 2023 (TATOLI) – Chief Department of Surveillance and Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health (MoH) Dr. Felipe de Nerio Machado said since January to mid of February 2023, MoH had recorded 182 new cases of dengue and three fatalities.
“MoH recorded 182 new cases while of the number MoH also recorded three fatalities including two people from Dili and one people from the municipality of Lautem’’ Dr. Nerio told reporters at the office of MoH, Cai- Coli, Dili.
Dr. Nerio emphasized that dengue cases have become a public health issue that must be prevented early and the MoH has carried out early prevention, however, Nerio said many parents pay less attention to their children and are too late to approach the health clinic.
“The role of the Minister of Health was to work optimally in the prevention and fumigate the mosquito breeding ground, also raise community awareness to clean the environment,” he said.
Nerio also advises the parent to bring the children to the nearest health facilities, if the child experienced symptoms such as sudden fever, Nausea, vomiting, Rash, Aching and pains, or Any warning sign.
“There is no specific drug for dengue, therefore dengue patients are advised to rest, consume much water, eat nutritious foods, and drink the paracetamol to reduce the body heat, but be advised not to drink the aspirin and ibuprofen because these drugs will cause bleeding,” he added.
Based on the data, there were 102 cases of dengue found in Dili and most cases of dengue were in the sub-administration of Dom Aleixo, Comoro, while the other municipalities had decreased.
From the data collected by the MoH, the majority of dengue cases are suffered by children aged 4 – 14 years.
