DILI, 8 march 2023 (TATOLI) – The Timor Leste Defense Force (F-FDTL) encourages Timorese women to participate in all types of training, develop their skills, and contribute to the country’s development, said the Head of the FDTL Gender Department, Lieutenant Markita Da Cunha after celebrating International Women’s Day.

According to Cunha, being a professional working woman requires knowledge and education.

“To become a more professional working woman or housewife, every woman is required to have skills, women are required to attend training, develop their skills and careers to contribute to the country’s development,” Head of the FDTL Gender Department, Tenente Markita Da Cunha told TATOLI , at FDTL headquarters, Fatuhada Dili.

In line with the celebration of Women’s Day, Cunha also invited all female soldiers to actively participate in training, especially language courses, and training on gender equality to increase their knowledge and develop their careers.

However, Cunha also acknowledged the challenges faced by these female soldiers by saying, it takes good time management, professionalism, as well as patience to serve the country and family at the same time.

“As a female soldier, one must be strong and effective in time management to serve the institution and work for the family, especially taking care of children. Support from the family is also important and much needed to ensure they provide a balance of duties to both the Army Institution and the Family. With every effort, the female soldier can achieve great progress in their careers,”

Cunha also congratulated all women and all female soldiers in the celebration of International Women’s Day.

“I congratulate all Timorese women, especially Timor-Leste female soldiers on International Women’s Day. I hope everyone will be professional and provide services to the institution and also to the family,” She concluded

So far, the Timor-Leste Defense Force has registered more than 351 female soldiers from 2002 to 2023.
