DILI, 15 march 2023 ( TATOLI)– The President of the National Election Commission (CNE), José Agustinho Belo, said the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) has expressed their willingness to observe the parliamentary elections which will take place on 21 May 2023.

“CPLP is committed to observing the parliamentary elections on May 21, 2023, and confirmed they have made preparations to come to Timor – Leste in the near future,” President of CNE José Belo, told TATOLI in his office in Colmera, Dili.

Question about how many election observation delegates CPLP would send to Timor – Leste, the President of CNE said, there is no certain number, but CPLP was prepared to send election observers shortly before the election.

“CPLP is ready to send a delegation to Timor-Leste in the near future to observe the 2023 legislative election, but we don’t know many delegates will be sent to Timor-Leste,” he said.

Previously, CPLP had sent 11 delegates to observe the last year’s Presidential Election, therefore it is hoped that CPLP will send the same delegation to observe the parliamentary ‘s election transparently, and fairly in accordance with the values of democratization which is implemented in Timor – Leste.
